Countrywide Insurance Group Names Steve Cardinal President and Chief Operating Officer of Countrywide Insurance Services in Major Insurance Agency Expansion May 7, 2007

CALABASAS, CA (May 7, 2007) In a strategic initiative to grow its personal lines, home warranty, life insurance and commercial lines brokerage business, Countrywide Insurance Group today announced that insurance industry veteran Steve Cardinal has joined the organization as President and Chief Operating Officer of Countrywide Insurance Services.

As a member of Countrywide Insurance Group's executive team, Cardinal will oversee all aspects of Countrywide Insurance Services-a full-service agency that offers homeowners, auto insurance, renters, personal umbrella, and life insurance products to consumers and makes available a wide variety of commercial insurance products and services to businesses.

Cardinal will spearhead new efforts to hire agents in branches and call centers in an agency expansion that will ultimately provide value to Countrywide's home loan customer base and expand access to Countrywide Insurance Group's products and services to businesses and general consumers across the country. He will work closely with his colleagues in Countrywide Insurance Group to align agency resources with business objectives and with other Countrywide business segments on cross-sell strategies.

"Steve has the ideal combination of skill, talent and experience to ensure our growth initiatives will succeed," said Bob James, President and Chief Executive Officer of Countrywide Insurance Group. "His high-level executive leadership and focus, coupled with Countrywide's strong brand and geographical presence, will help us expand our insurance business significantly."

Prior to joining Countrywide Insurance Group, Cardinal served as Regional Distribution Leader for the southwestern U.S. for Allstate Insurance Company, where he led a region that included 3,000 insurance professionals and 120 financial services agents. He brings 16 years of successful agency sales and agency management experience, having served in several sales and leadership positions at MetLife, as well as Allstate.

Countrywide Insurance Group has grown its business from $449 million in net earned premiums earned in 1995 to $948 million in 2006. In addition to offering a full array of personal and commercial lines programs, it has recently expanded its executive team, launched a new auto insurance product that is currently being introduced on state-by-state basis throughout 2007, launched a national home warranty program, and has recently entered the affluent homeowners insurance business.
